I’m from Yiyang, Hunan Province, and I’ve been running a cosmetics factory in Guangzhou for more than 20 years. Recently, several government officials came to visit and urged us—factory owners operating out of other regions—to relocate our businesses back to the mainland, promising preferential policies such as tax exemptions and subsidies for factory construction. After careful consideration, I do believe there are many advantages to returning home; however, there are also significant challenges. For instance, what about the team we’ve spent two decades building? Their families and children are all settled in Guangzhou, where they work and attend school. Then there’s our supply chain: most of our suppliers are located nearby, which allows us to quickly receive raw materials and finished goods and ship them back to the factory. As soon as a customer approves a request and sends over the specifications, we can immediately begin custom production and finalize the sample within five hours—after which we’re ready to place the order and start manufacturing. And let’s not forget our logistics: Guangzhou boasts an exceptionally well-developed distribution network that can deliver products anywhere in the world at any time, saving our customers valuable time. In fact, many business owners share my view: they prefer to put down roots in the place where they first built their careers and to continue working hard right where they’ve always called home. Guangdong is where I started more than 20 years ago, and I’ve grown deeply attached to this region—I’ve been here for over two decades now.
